Square Takeoff is cloud construction takeoff software with published pricing, digital blueprints, and bid management tools.
Square Takeoff is cloud construction takeoff software for contractors, builders, and estimators. The company’s About page says Square Takeoff, Inc. was founded in 2015 and specializes in automating the construction takeoff, estimating, and bid management process in the cloud for commercial and residential construction. The product is positioned around fast digital blueprint measurement, cleaner estimates, and easier bid workflows rather than a full construction ERP.
Buildertrend owns the company. In a September 2022 recap, Buildertrend described its acquisition of Square Takeoff as having happened “last year,” placing the acquisition in 2021. The Square Takeoff brand remains active: its current LinkedIn company profile is titled “Square Takeoff A Buildertrend Company.” In other words, the current branding is Square Takeoff, a Buildertrend company, while the standalone website continues to sell and support the product under the Square Takeoff name.
The current marketing site emphasizes speed, precision, and online access. The home page says the software helps contractors cut takeoff time from hours to minutes, reduce printing costs, and generate more accurate material estimates. It also states that the tool works on Windows and Mac.
Square Takeoff publishes three billing options on its pricing page:
Each plan includes unlimited jobs and unlimited storage. The pricing page also calls out a 14-day trial and says enterprise or multiple-license customers should call for details.
Square Takeoff’s feature set is centered on construction takeoff rather than broader job management. The current site highlights online takeoff for areas, lengths, and counts, blueprint overlay, custom scale setup, roof area tools, estimate breakdowns, parts catalog management, team access controls, bid management, and reporting.
That makes the product a good fit for contractors and estimators who want a dedicated takeoff tool with transparent pricing and a relatively simple workflow. It is less compelling for buyers who want accounting, project management, or field-service depth in the same platform.
The strongest documented account integration is with Buildertrend. Buildertrend’s Takeoff integration guide says a connected user can launch Takeoff from a Buildertrend lead or job. Buildertrend sends selected lead or job data to create the takeoff project, and applied assemblies then sync back to the project’s proposal or estimate. This is a real account and data workflow, not just a file export.
For teams outside that connected workflow, Square Takeoff supports several documented handoffs:
The integration footprint is therefore focused rather than broad. Buildertrend provides the native system connection, while Excel, HTML, and PDF cover portable reporting and sharing.
Square Takeoff’s biggest strength is focus. It solves the core takeoff and estimating workflow directly, keeps pricing public, and avoids the complexity of a larger all-in-one construction suite. The unlimited jobs and storage language is also helpful for teams that want predictable usage, and Buildertrend customers get a more connected proposal and estimate workflow.
The tradeoff is scope. Square Takeoff looks best for estimating-led teams, not for companies that need a broader construction operations platform. Buyers who need deeper financial controls, service dispatch, or enterprise project management will likely need a different product. Independent evidence is also limited: Capterra lists a 4.0/5 overall score from 10 reviews. That small sample includes positive feedback on ease and estimating speed as well as a sharply negative support and reliability review, so the aggregate should be treated as directional rather than conclusive.
Square Takeoff is a strong fit for contractors, builders, and estimators who want a cloud takeoff tool with published pricing, practical export formats, and enough measurement depth to handle commercial and residential estimating. It is especially appealing to Buildertrend customers who want takeoff data connected to proposals and estimates, or to teams that want quick adoption on Windows or Mac without buying a full construction management suite.
