Jonas Construction Software was established in 1990 in Markham, Ontario, starting as a four-person job-costing and accounting shop. The company has since grown to a reported 14,000+ users and is now part of the CORA Group and Jonas Software, an operating group of Constellation Software Inc. (TSX: CSU). The platform is a construction ERP that unifies accounting and payroll, project management, service management, and field-to-office operations on one system, targeting mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, specialty trade, and fire/sprinkler contractors — companies for whom construction-grade accounting (job costing, AIA-style progress billing, certified payroll, lien waivers) matters as much as, or more than, field dispatch.

Pricing

Jonas does not publish list pricing; every deployment runs through a sales-led scoping process, with cost and implementation fees scoped to user count, data migration, and customization. On-premises deployments — one of Jonas’s two deployment options, alongside cloud — add server, license, and IT overhead on top of the subscription cost. Implementation typically runs 90-120 days with a certified Jonas implementation partner.

Strengths and weaknesses

Jonas’s core strength is decades of construction-accounting depth: job costing, subcontractor management, AIA-style progress billing, certified payroll, and lien waiver management are mature, purpose-built features rather than bolt-ons. The service-management module — work order dispatch, scheduling, and preventative maintenance contracts — lets contractors run construction and service work in one system rather than stitching together separate accounting and FSM tools. The trade-offs are a traditional interface with a real learning curve, no native Power BI / Power Platform connectivity (BI reporting runs through a separate warehouse or third-party tool), and an implementation that is neither quick nor cheap.

When to pick Jonas (and when not to)

Jonas is the right fit for general contractors and mechanical/specialty trade contractors where 60% or more of revenue is construction-project work — multi-phase jobs, AIA billing, certified payroll, and subcontractor management are daily realities. It’s also a reasonable fit for shops with in-house IT staff who want the option of on-premises deployment and scheduled maintenance windows rather than a pure cloud-only model. If your business is primarily service-driven — maintenance contracts, repair, on-call dispatch — with construction work as the minority of revenue, a field-service-first platform (FIELDBOSS, BuildOps, or a residential FSM tool depending on trade and scale) is a better match; Jonas’s dispatch and mobile technician workflows were added on top of a construction-accounting core rather than built ground-up for service operations.
